1. Champions elect Chelsea go to in form Leicester in a game which could have ramifications for both ends of the Premier League table. Chelsea who had they won at Arsenal on Sunday could have wrapped up the title at the King Power Stadium tonight will know that a win here means they can win the title at home in front of their own fans at the Weekend, but even if they don’t manage to get all 3 points tonight it will only be a matter of when not if they win their first Premier League title in 5 years. The reason they might not win all 3 points tonight is due to a resurgent Leicester who have won their last three matches to pull themselves out of the relegation zone, a big question tonight will be if Nigel Pearson rests any of his Leicester players tonight and saves them for the “6 pointer” at home to Newcastle on Saturday Lunchtime. Pearson may feel that this game is beyond them and therefore not think it necessary for key men to play 3 games in a week while risking further tiredness and/or injury. Chelsea will obviously go into the game as favourites if Leicester can pick up even a point they will consider that a massive bonus going into Saturday’s game.
2. Real Madrid will be looking to cut their 5 point gap to Barcelona to only 2 when they take on Almeria this evening. Barcelona who were in mesmerising form last night in their 6-0 rout of Getafe have certainly put the pressure on Real who didn’t make particularly easy work of dispatching Celta Vigo on Sunday, Real who have Norwegian 16-year-old Martin Odegaard in the Real squad for the first time will know that they can’t afford any slips in their last 5 matches as they look to win this season’s La Liga. Gareth Bale is again out injured, but interestingly Los Blancos have won every game in which he has been out injured this season (9) and I certainly expect them to make it a perfect 10 tonight.
3. Juventus take on old rivals Fiorentina tonight in Serie A knowing that if they better Lazio’s result at home to Parma they will again become Champions. After a shock defeat in the Turin Derby to cross city rivals Torino at the Weekend The “Old Lady” will be looking to bounce back and make sure the title celebrations are delayed no longer and how sweet would it be over the opponents they are facing tonight. Juventus and Fiorentina have a history often steeped in violence, so I expect there to be fireworks on and off the pitch. It’s a pretty much full fixture list in Italy tonight with the other key fixture being Roma away at Sassuolo a win for the side from the Capital would extend their gap over Napoli to 5 points and go someway to increasing their chances of Champions League Football next season (although Napoli can quickly reduce that when they play Empoli on Thursday)
So a title could be decided, one could nearly be wrapped up and another will probably run to the final day. It won’t be a boring nights Football (well hopefully not) that’s for sure.
