Tottenham vs Crystal Palace a few quick thoughts

  • I actually went to White Hart Lane for the first time this season, the North Stand is really really quiet (more on the match day experience in a separate post)
  • If there’s one thing I should have learned by now, it’s that going to Football with a hangover is tough work – especially when you have to walk back from White Hart Lane to South Tottenham. Thankfully we won otherwise that could have been a very depressing walk.
  • 2 league wins in a row and 5 league games unbeaten since the opening day defeat to Manchester United and the season is finally starting to gain some momentum
  • I could use many “Son Puns” but he was the the player who shone the most yesterday (there’s another one) that’s 3 goals in 2 matches and he’s looking to be a very shrewd signing.
  • Harry Kane now hasn’t scored in 6 league matches, whisper it quietly but he is in a bit of a slump. Personally I think he looks a bit tired, which with only being in September is a bit an issue. It’s not a crisis just yet but for every game this continues the pressure will mount further and the murmurs of “Second Season Syndrome” will get louder.
  • Another clean sheet in the League and the Belgian duo at the back are starting to get a decent partnership going.
  • Hugo Lloris made a fantastic save and we also rode our luck a bit when Cabaye hit the post (I said to my mate I had a feeling he might score to rub salt in the non signature wound) but I think on the balance of play we deserved all three points
  • Dele Alli looked impressive in Centre Midfield, I don’t think anyone would have thought him and Dier would necessarily be the midfield two at the start of the season but for now it seems to be working
  • Good to see Christian Eriksen come off the bench, will be interesting to see who will make way to the bench now on the basis on yesterday’s performance I have a feeling it will be Nacer Chadli who looked pretty abject.
  • 3 wins in a space of week which sets us up nicely for the League Cup clash against Arsenal on Wednesday, will be interesting to see how many changes are made for that especially in the final third of the pitch.
  • For all the angst of signing a striker in August the mood has slightly dissipated but there’s no time to rest as the test of Manchester City awaits on Saturday and that will be the real measure as to  how good the side is
