Tottenham vs Aston Villa – A few quick thoughts

  • So that’s now 10 games unbeaten in the league, not sure any of us envisioned this run at the start of the season let alone when there were murmours of discontent in late August for not having enough firepower
  • On the balance of play, I think 3-1 was a fair result although the scoreline doesn’t quite reflect the performance.
  • After 70-75 minutes we looked set to do the most Spurs of Spurs things and throw away a 2-0 lead. Thankfully we managed to ride this out and then hit Villa on the break with a late 3rd to secure all 3 points
  • I’d say rather by accident than design we seem to have stumbled upon our strongest XI –maybe swap Dembele for Son when he’s fit to give us a bit more natural width on wide right but as it stands we’re looking an incredibly strong unit
  • That said I thought Dembele did have a good game and started the game perfectly with that opening goal and his 2nd in two games
  • Had we not conceded last night we would have had the joint tightest defence in the Premier League, I’m just incredibly grateful that we’ve finally got the Centre Back partnership sorted. As a team we look a lot better for it.
  • I suppose ultimately if you do have a supposed lack of goals in the team then just make sure you aren’t shipping them out at the back. Thankfully the goals are also coming at the other end
  • Up to 5th now in the League, just a point off of Manchester United who’s goals seemed to have dried up as of late. If we drew at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season we would be in the top 4 by now
  • As for Aston Villa, they looked slightly better in the second half but that’s only because they were so abject in the first. We pretty much switched off for their goal as Ryan Mason dallied in Midfield, I think they gave all they had but thankfully didn’t manage to get the second and then we punished them to wrap things up.
  • I’m not sure if Remi Garde is the right man for the Aston Villa job, I guess only time will tell but even if he is the right man do they have the right personnel. I look at that side and there’s not enough fight in that team. I think it could be the season where they finally go down
  • As for Spurs next on the horizon is the North London Derby on Sunday. I think after going 10 league games unbeaten we’ve got every right to be confident. I’m not sure we’ll have enough to win so will be happy with a draw. Arsenal, West Ham and Chelsea all on the horizon, I reckon 5 or 6 for points will be a suitable points haul for those 3 matches. It’s going to be a big month for Tottenham, let’s hope it’s a good one. COYS!
