- Well it wasn’t a classic Liverpool v Manchester United tie by any means
- The game was more than likely heading for a bore draw but Wayne Rooney the only scouser on the pitch made the difference with his late goal
- It was pretty much a smash and grab from United as the few chances that were in the game went primarily to Liverpool
- The only real flash point of the first half was the row between Feilani and Lucas. Thankfully Referee Mark Clattenburg decided to keep his cards in his pocket
- The first half did have the feeling of 6th vs 9th to be fair
- But the second half was better and United showed a lot more urgency
- Roberto Firmino was started up front again but he couldn’t repeat the form of Wednesday as he flashed an early chance past the post
- Christian Benteke came on as up a sub but was largely ineffective in his cameo role
- I’m sure Steven Caulker wasn’t bought in to be an emergency striker
- Liverpool tried to throw everything at United late on but The Red Devils managed to hold out for a welcome clean aheet
- A big win for Louis Van Gaal as they close the gap to Tottenham to only 2 points
- Whereas Liverpool for all their attacking endeavour come away empty handed and find themselves by their standards a lowly 9th
