World Cup Qualifying – European Section Group E Goals

Group E action now and it is still all to play for in the race for both automatic and play-off places especially as Denmark earned an emphatic win over Poland last night in Copenhagen. A win that Christian Eriksen was very much at the centre of.

The Tottenham forward would play a part in all four of Denmark’s goals. The first three goals for the Danes would all be assisted by Eriksen with goals from Thomas Delaney, Andreas Cornelius and Nicolai Jorgensen and he himself would manage to earn a place on the scoresheet with his side’s 4th goal of the evening with 10 minutes remaining.

That win put Denmark third in Group E and they now sit just three points behind group toppers Poland with three matches left to play

It is Montenegro who sit second in the group and also three points behind Poland after they eased to a routine win in Kazhakstan yesterday. They would run out eventual 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Marko Vesovic, Fatos Beciraj and Marko Simic. Defeat for Kazhakstan means that they are now out of any hopes of a play off spot.

Montenegro have a goal difference of plus 10 while Denmark have a goal difference of plus 8, if the Danes can rack up some more large victories like we witnessed last night then there is still very much all to play for in this particular group.

While in the third of yesterday’s Group E matches, Romania kept their slim chances of a play-off berth alive when Alexandru Maxim scored a last minute winner over Armenia.  The win for Romania means that they are now four points behind both Montenegro and Denmark and they still have to play both nations in their last three qualifiers so you certainly cannot rule them out just yet.
