West Ham vs Sunderland – Match Preview

The mood in East London is a little less gloomy now after West Ham picked up their first away win of the season last week after making the short journey to Crystal Palace and coming away with all three points. They will hope to continue that form with the visit of basement side Sunderland this afternoon.

Slave Bilic’s side may have rode their luck last Saturday evening but they are overdue some good fortune and after a well worked Miguel Lanzini goal out The Hammers in front it was all backs to the wall as Palace looked for an equaliser.

After Christian Benteke’s woeful penalty miss they then had to see out the final portion of the game with just 10 men after Arron Cresswell’s rapid fire pair of bookings. Although they were a man short with Adrian in goal they had a keeper who wasn’t to be beaten and his string of late saves made sure West Ham made the journey back to East London with all three points.

Now what their opponents Today Sunderland could do with just the smallest piece of good fortune. David Moyes is still searching for his first win as manager of The Black Cats with his side rooted to the bottom of the table with just a solitary point to their name.

Last week saw what you could almost label a 6 pointer even this early in the season as they travelled to Stoke and came away with nothing to show for it as Joe Allen scored a brave to not only alleviate the pressure on Mark Hughes but increase it on the former Everton and Manchester United boss.

The thing is you can’t really say that Sunderland have been unlucky they have just been nothing short of rank bad. Jermain Defoe’s goals alone aren’t going to keep this side up and were it not for Jordan Pickford playing exceptionally well in goal then the results could have been embarrassing

How much chance have Sunderland got of getting a result against at a West Ham side that have underperformed so far? You would have to say even with a stuttering Hammers side they will still have enough to help more misery in Moyes. The question that is then asked is how long has Notes for left in the hotseat? It’s nothing less than a West Ham win for me.
