Watford vs Aston Villa – Match Preview

The Aston Villa relegation tour takes another stop this Afternoon as they visit Vicarage Road to play Watford. It’s been another miserable week for Villa in an incredibly miserable season with Gabriel Agbonlahor standing down as Club Captain due to his indiscretions as of late.

There’s really not much else to say about Villa which hasn’t already been covered this season, how many times can you say they’ve been bad this season without the risk of repeating yourself. I’m starting to run out of ways to describe just how poor they have been.

Last weekend they lost 4-2 at home to Southampton. That would suggest it was quite a close game but in fairness Southampton should have scored 7 that Afternoon. The game was once again played in front of a highly toxic atmosphere as the game was played amidst a swathe of fan protests. If you could give Aston Villa the chance to just end the season Today they would bite you arm to take it.

They travel to play a Watford side who missed out on another trip to Wembley next Month after losing to Crystal Palace in the F.A. Cup Semi Final. Palace were arguably the better side on the day but it’s still heartbreaking knowing that you were one game away from an even bigger day out.

That defeat has also triggered rumours that Quique Sanchez Flores’ job is under threat. He’ll certainly be in charge until the end of the season when the Pozzo Family which own the club have announced that they will then review his employment status.

I think it would be incredibly harsh to get rid of Flores after his first season in charge but it must also come with the caveat that their form has dipped incredibly since the turn of the year. I guess the objective at the start of the season was survival which has been reached but when you get higher up the table then perhaps unfairly the objectives then changed so the good start to the season may ultimately be to his Flores undoing.

I would fully expect them to beat Villa today though, if they don’t beat them then it will certainly do the Watford boss any favours. A home win simply because if you don’t beat Villa at home then you deserve to get relegated yourselves.
