France centre back Raphael Varane will be out until the World Cup, while Cristiano Ronaldo rejoins the squad for Manchester Joined’s Europa League game against Sheriff Tiraspol.
Varane experienced a leg injury during United’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Saturday.
“Varane isn’t in the squad. He will be out until the World Cup,” United boss Erik ten Hag confirmed.
Asked if Varane would be available for the World Cup, which starts off in Qatar on 20 November, ten Hag said: “We need to see how his develops, how his recovery will develop.”
The 29-year-old, who fell ungracefully while attempting to challenge Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has 87 caps for France and now faces a race against time to be fit for Qatar.
