Unofficial Football World Championship – Uruguay vs Trinidad Preview

It’s time for another defence of the UFWC title and tonight sees holders Uruguay take on Trinidad. This game acts as a warm up match for Urugauy’s preparations before the Centenary Copa America next month.

Uruguay are without Luis Suarez Tonight but will still be favourites to hold on to the coveted crown. Trinidad have never been UFWC champions before and a win would see their name added to the long industrious list of champions

As for Uruguay this is their 3rd title defence in their current reign. After beating Chile back in November they then went on to draw with Brazil and edge past Peru to keep hold of the crown.

It’s the second time that Uruguay have been holders in two years and if they get past the challenge of Trinidad then they will go up against more CONCACAF opposition in the form of Mexico in the first Copa America group game. They also have Venezuela and Jamaica in their group so you would imagine that they could very well get to the Quarter Finals of the competition unscathed

As we saw in last year’s edition of the Copa America the title was bounced around with no fewer then 4 nations holding the title during the tournament duration, don’t be surprised if that ends up being the case again. If that is the case we could be looking at Argentina holding on to the title for the 4th time in 4 years

With the Copa America taking place this month it means the trophy will be going nowhere near Europe for the foreseeable future. There hasn’t been a European nation as holders since Germany’s 2014 World Cup Final win over Argentina doubled up as a title defence, since that point onwards it has been a hotbed of COMNEBOL domination could Trinidad at least take the crown down to the Caribbean. We will find out by the early hours of the morning.
