Unofficial Football World Championship – Chile Retain Their Crown

In what is an unexpected addition to the fixture calendar, Chile have managed to hold onto their UFWC crown after beating Croatia on penalties during the newly found China Cup.

This competition is one that involves 4 nations in a semi final then final format and those four sides are hosts China, Iceland, Chile and Croatia. China have already lost to Iceland in the other Semi which means the winner of this game would go on to face the conquerors of England back in Euro 2016.

Both nations were without their star names so don’t expect the likes of Alexis Sanchez or Ivan Rakitic to be appearing in this competition. With both sides playing fringe players it was anyone’s guess as to who was going to win

Eventually it was Chile who hold on to their UFWC crown thanks to a penalty shooutout victory.

Chile took the lead after 17 minutes. A brilliant run and pass from Vargas found debutant César Pinares, who struck an excellent left-foot shot past goalkeeper Dominik Livaković – also making his international debut.

Chile drew level in the second half, after 75 minutes, through a smart near-post volley from Franko Andrijašević

The score was level at 1-1 after 90 minutes and there was only going to be one way to decide a winner

Chile now move on to the final to face Iceland and European fans of the UFWC will be pinning their hopes on the Icelandic stars as they look to finally bring the ‘trophy’ back to Europe
