Tottenham vs Chelsea – Match Preview

Tottenham are without midfielder Dele Alli, who serves a ban for accumulating five bookings.

Kyle Walker, Mousa Dembele and Danny Rose are set to return after being rested on Thursday, when Spurs beat Qarabag in Azerbaijan.

Chelsea captain John Terry is a major doubt with an ankle injury, although manager Jose Mourinho has “a little hope” the defender will be fit.

Ramires will also be monitored after suffering a muscle problem on Monday.

Cesc Fabregas is fit despite suffering a minor toe injury in midweek.

Editor’s Note: Now a 10 point gap between the two sides isn’t necessarily a rare thing to happen but when the gap is from Spurs to Chelsea then you that there is the potential for change to be afoot in the League table.

Tottenham are unbeaten since the opening day of the season and that has meant a record equaling 12 games without defeat since losing to Manchester United at Old Trafford back in August. This a Spurs side which looked incredibly convincing in their 4-1 demolition of West Ham last Sunday and whisper it quietly but Mauricio Pochettino has gone currently something exciting going at White Hart Lane.

Their Europa League exploits in Azerbaijan on Thursday means Tottenham aren’t going to be at their most rested for the visit of Chelsea and with the amount of first team players playing a full 90 minutes against Qarabag you do have to wonder how much of an effect it’s going to have on the team when they go up against the Champions. But with Harry Kane scoring 9 goals in 6 matches they have a striker in red hot form and when you have one of those in your ranks then anything is possible

Fitness aside, Tottenham have fostered a winning mentality so they will certainly have the confidence on Sunday but after a much maligned start to the season Chelsea are slowly finding their groove with a win over Norwich last weekend and an impressive Champions League win in Midweek.

They will be sweating on the fitness of John Terry as to whether he will be fit enough to start after being subbed off through injury in Israel on Tuesday but in Kurt Zouma have a more than capable deputy. Tottenham’s biggest threat on Sunday will be Willian whose free kicks have dug Chelsea out of quite a few holes already this season. Tottenham will be hoping he doesn’t repeat that feat this Weekend and their will no doubt be extra bitterness if he does considering Chelsea snatched his signature away from Spurs back in 2013.

As for match result I think unfortunately for Spurs their Europa League exploits will hamper them slightly and that means they won’t get all 3 points but I still think they will be good value for draw. If they can get a draw then that 10 point gap is still in place and the Champions League places look a more realistic prospect. This game isn’t going to decide the Top 4 but could go a long way to shaping who is in their come May. My money is on a Draw.
