Swansea vs Manchester United – Premier League Match Preview

After an exhilarating start to the Premier League season, this week has got some way to go in trying to match it. The first game which will do its very best to keep the entertainment flowing is that of Swansea vs Manchester United at The Liberty Stadium.

Swansea may have an additional £45m in the bank after their sale of Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton but Paul Clement would rather have the Icelandic international still at his disposal rather than a big sum of money and only two weeks in which to spend it.

They’ve already tried to adapt to life after Sigurdsson when the midfielder was not selected by Paul Clement for their 0-0 draw away at Southampton but it is fair to say that without their former talisman the Swans lacked any real creative endeavour.

Tammy Abraham may prove to be an astute signing as he spends the season here on loan but without the right kind of service they will struggle to see the best out of the England Under 21 international. The youngster started last week but was lost at sea at the top of the Swansea attack.

That is a problem that is more than likely going to rear its ugly head again this lunchtime as Swansea lack the creative spark required to not only unlock Abraham’s talents but also to cause Manchester United’s back four any real issues.

Last season these two sides met at The Liberty Stadium and United ran out 3-1 winners in what resembled something of a Sunday stroll. Swansea were in the midst of their brief Bob Bradley era and were a much improved side by the time they earned a share of the points at Old Trafford late on in the season.

Manchester United look pretty ominous last Sunday as they made very easy work of West Ham thanks to a 4-0 win. Romelu Lukaku grabbed the headlines after scoring his second and third goals for the club. His brace set United on their way to victory as the hapless Hammers were in for a long afternoon.

One that would see them also ship goals to Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba late on. Martial had only been on the pitch 10 minutes but still had enough time to score one goal and make another. The French connection was in full effect by the time Pogba made it 4-0 and wrapped up an impressive team performance.

Jose Mourinho’s teams are always stronger in the second season and if that is the case again then the early evidence coming out of Manchester looks very promising. The signing of Nemanja Matic could be one of the most important of the season.

Not only because it provides an ideal shield for the back four but it also can set Paul Pogba free, something that was witnessed against West Ham. Last season Pogba when in front of goal would have probably looked for another pass but now he seems ready and willing to take more chances and opposition defences best be warned.

Swansea will have to be warned in a few hours as United will have their tails up after that dominant performance last weekend. There is no reason that the momentum will not be shifted to today against a post Sigurdsson Swansea, even if the Icelandic international was a part of the team I don’t think it would make all that difference. I can’t see anything else than an away win.
