Stoke vs Sheffield Wednesday – Match Preview

Stoke will be without skipper Ryan Shawcross for the League Cup quarter-final after he was dismissed in the loss to Sunderland.

Shay Given (knee) and Marc Muniesa (hamstring) are also unavailable.

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal is without key midfielder Barry Bannan (knee) for the trip to the Potteries.

Youngster Joe Wildsmith is likely to start in goal, while loan striker Gary Hooper is also eligible.

Editor’s Note: Both sides were victors in notable cup upsets in the previous sides with Chelsea and Arsenal being dumped out by the two sides playing tonight. Stoke now take the role of favourites while Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to hand out another Cup Giantkilling.

Stoke will undoubtedly miss Ryan Shawcross tonight who is out through suspension while Mark Hughes will be looking to lift his side who lost at Sunderland on Saturday at The Stadium Of Light. The Britannia Stadium is never an easy place to go and it could be a difficult night for Owls Goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith.

Sheffield Wednesday thought hard to get a point after being 2-0 down at Blackburn on Saturday and will have to fight again to get anything out of tonight but injury to Barry Bannan will be a big blow. I think Tonight the cup run ends for Sheffield Wednesday as Stoke will march onto the Semi Finals.
