Spain’s Euro 2016 squad announced

Victor Del Bosque has named his provisional squad for next month’s European Championships and it has came with some shock omissions. Chelsea players and present have missed out with Diego Costa, Juan Mata and Fernando Torres all missing out on selection

Costa has had niggling injuries towards the end of the season with many believing he has had a recurrence of the hamstring injury which saw miss so much of the Champions League Final back in 2014.

Juan Mata hasn’t had a particularly memorable season and is going to have to work hard to make sure his international career doesn’t ebb away while Fernando Torres can probably count himself unlucky not to have made the provisional squad

There are 5 Premier League based players in the squad but there is no room for Santi Cazorla while uncapped duo SaulnNiguez and Lucas Vazquez get a provisional call up.

With what is set to be Del Bosque’s final major tournament in charge of the Spanish national side then he would love to mastermind a hat-trick of European Championships before he goes out at the tournament end

Below is the full provisional squad

Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas (Porto/POR), David De Gea (Manchester United), Sergio Rico (Sevilla)

Defenders: Jordi Alba, Gerard Pique, Marc Bartra (all Barcelona), Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid), Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea), Juanfran (Atletico Madrid)

Forwards: Pedro Rodriguez (Chelsea), Alvaro Morata (Juventus), Aritz Aduriz (Athletic Bilbao), Nolito (Celta Vigo), Lucas Vazquez (Real Madrid)
