Spain vs Germany Under 21 Match Preview

Tonight is the night in which we will see the culmination of the UEFA Under 21 European Championships as Spain take on Germany in Krakow. Albert Celades young Spanish side will go head to head with the cream of the young German crop which has been cultivated by Stefan Kuntz.

Spain come into the final with a perfect 100% record with four wins from four and 13 goals in the process, not only that but they have only conceded two at the other end. Only Italy and Portugal have managed to breach the Spanish net during this competition.

Not only that but they boast the two highest goalscorers in the tournament at the moment. Saul Niguez of Atletico Madrid leads the Golden Boot list with 5 goals to his name. He surged to the top of the tree on Tuesday night with a hat-trick against Italy.

That was ultimately the difference as Luigi Di Biagio’s side were dumped out at the Semi Final stage after losing 3-1, it was perhaps a case of what might have been as Italy were down to 10 men for the remaining 35 minutes but that said Spain’s quality certainly shone through 72 hours or so ago.

In addition to Saul they also have Champions League winner Marco Asensio as a lethal attacking weapon he has chipped in with 3 goals of his own during the tournament and he will undoubtedly be having his own personal battle with the Atletico midfielder to see who can win the Golden Boot.

Ultimately though both Spanish stars will want to make sure that the tournament is won first before they worry about any additional accolades. To do so they are going to have to get past the hurdle which is Germany who booked their place in the Final with a win over England on Tuesday evening.

It was almost all too obvious how this one was going to end as once again Germany got the better of England in a penalty shoot out. Agonising heartbreak for Aidy Boothroyd’s young lions but although Germany did progress just how much will that extra activity have an effect on them Tonight.

For manager Stefan Kuntz he will have to decide whether to go with the same lineup that started against England or whether he will once again ring the changes. After all the group games saw an unchanged starting eleven, two changes were made on Tuesday. So Kuntz will now have weigh up whether to stick or twist this time around.

Davie Salke will be tasked with leading the line in attack, a task he has done admirably well during the duration of the tournament while he will look for support from the likes of Max Meyer who is a reported Liverpool target and also that of Maximilian Arnold.

Spain will go into this game as favourites and that in all honesty is not too much of a surprise but with a final, form and odds do have a habit of going out of the window. Especially when you consider that this German side is no pushover, that said I do think Spain will once again the European Championship crown at this level. Spain win in 90 minutes for me.

In regards to twitter they think that it is going to be a victory for Spain, a ratio of 2:1 in their favour. I’ll talk about this in greater date later on at my sister website Real Football Data
