Southampton vs Manchester United a few quick thoughts

  • For all you keen bloggers out there, a good tip I can give you is that your posts need to be 300 words minimum to be deemed ‘Google Friendly’
  • After watching Southampton vs Manchester United last night, I think I am going to struggle to hit that benchmark
  • Going into the game it had the feeling of a dead rubber
  • United have already given up their league fixtures between now and the end of the season as an ungoing concern
  • While for Southampton all they had to play for was adding points to their tally which has seen them move recently up to 8th place without even kicking a ball
  • Therefore it comes as no great surprise that both teams were on the beach last night
  • Claude Puel who made numerous changes for Southampton’s win over Middlesbrough last Saturday once again shuffled the pack as Manolo Gabbiadini who did feature at The Riverside Stadium was bought back into the starting line up
  • And he would be part of the key moment of the game
  • Eric Bailly has not had the best of weeks after being sent off in the Europa League Semi Final last Thursday
  • And last night it would not be all that much better as he was adjudged to have handled in the box after 5 minutes
  • Italian international Gabbiadini stepped up to the penalty spot but only to see his effort saved by Sergio Romero who replaced David De Gea last night
  • De Gea it must be said was not even named on the bench
  • United had chances of their own but were foiled by a combination of Fraser Foster and woodwork
  • Bailly saw an effort well saved by the England international
  • While Anthony Martial saw a speculative long range effort hit the post after the break
  • That in fairness was as good as it got for either side, like I said not a great deal to write home about
  • But just over the 300 word threshold
  • I guess that will have to do
  • A bit of a yawnfest between Southampton and Manchester United last night
