Southampton vs Liverpool – Match Preview

Southampton are missing captain Jose Fonte after he injured his knee against Manchester City on Saturday.

His replacement in that match, Steven Caulker, is set to deputise, while Saints manager Ronald Koeman has no other injury concerns.

Philippe Coutinho (hamstring) could return to the Liverpool squad and Adam Bogdan is likely to start in goal.

Lucas Leiva is back from suspension and Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson are both available after foot injuries.

Editor’s Note: Liverpool seem to running on a wave of good form at the moment with Jurgen Klopp’s men now winning 6 out of 7 with defeat to Crystal Palace in the League being the only blemish on that record. The Reds will look to make it 7 from 8 tonight as they visit Southampton for a chance to progress to the League Cup Semi-Finals.

These two sides drew 1-1 in the league recently at Anfield and I would imagine it being another tight affair tonight, Southampton will look at this game as a big opportunity of getting close to some silverware this season while Liverpool will probably take the chance to rotate the squad but that rotation could enable players such as Lucas, Sturridge and Henderson to feature so it will be by no means a weakened side.

I think the momentum that Liverpool have will ease them to victory tonight as they go up against a Saints side who have lose their last two league matches. Liverpool to win in 90 minutes tonight and complete the Semi-Final line up.
