Sinclair loads up move to Celtic

Brendan Rodgers has added another new face to his Celtic squad as the Scottish Champions kick off their defence of their Scottish Premiership title. Aston Villa’s Scott Sinclair will once again link up with Rodgers after their time at Swansea City and also at Chelsea when Sinclair was a youngster.

Since leaving Swansea back in 2011, the 27 year old’s career has somewhat stalled over the last few years. A 3 year spell at Manchester City only saw him take part in 13 league appearances while a loan spell at West Brom and a similar move to Aston Villa which then went permanent failed to really pull up any trees.

So when Brendan Rodgers came calling, Sinclair jumped at the chance to link up with Rodgers for a third time. It could very well be the move that Sinclair needs to revitalise his career. Yes he may well come in for criticism that moving to Scottish Football may be taking the easy route but if it’s a toss up between playing in the Championship or the Champions League then it’s pretty obvious as to which option he would change.

Sinclair played arguably the best football of his career under Brendan Rodgers. The two seasons they spent together saw many highlights such as Sinclair earning a man of the match performance in the 2011 Championship Play-Off final after scoring hat-trick.

That successful season was then built on as Swansea more than held their own in their first season in the Premier League as Swansea finished a very impressive 9th and Sinclair chipped in with 8 Premier League goals, it was that form that earned him a big money move to Manchester City but it was also the start of the downturn in his career.

Sinclair will now look to show what he is capable of in front of a rapturous Celtic Park each week and with the connection he has with Brendan Rodgers you get the feeling that he will be able to find the form that got Swansea into the Premier League and then helped them stay there.

It will also be a breath of fresh air for Sinclair after a miserable season at Aston Villa last time around, a season that was a lost cause from October onwards and then ended in a somewhat toxic atmosphere with a raft of fan protests due to the on and off pitch plight of the club.

That’s not to say Celtic Park can be any less hostile but with Rodgers once again putting his faith in Sinclair it will allow him every opportunity to return to his best playing days and who knows he could be picking up a Scottish Premiership winners medal come the end of the season.
