So the unbeaten run finally comes to an end. 40 games they went without defeat but finally Real Madrid’s have lost and it happened in dramatic circumstances.
There was almost a hint of irony as it was in Sevilla just a few days prior that Karim Benzema scored a late late goal to keep Los Blancos unbeaten run intact and it would be here where the run would come to an end.
Not only have Real Madrid lost for the first time since defeat to Wolfsburg in the Champions League last April but it also blows the title race wide open.
Zinedine Zidane’s side still have a game in hand after their FIFA Club World Cup exploits but Sevilla now just sit a point behind with Barcelona another one further back.

Sergio Ramos’ late own goal against his former club levelled the scores. But there was still time for a final dramatic twist in the tale.
That was because ex-Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner for title rivals Sevilla.
Jovetic launched a 93rd minute effort from outside the box and Kaylor Navas could only watch the ball fly past him as the home side snatched all three points.
Real are still in the box seat when it comes to winning La Liga but it will give Sevilla and Barcelona for that matter renewed hope in regards to also winning the title.
