Is Riyad Mahrez now Arsenal bound?

Things tend to move quickly in Football something that is even more prevalent when the transfer window is thrown wide open. In a week where Riyad Mahrez stated his desire to leave 2016 Premier League champions Leicester it has now begged the question that should his requested be granted just where exactly where will end up.

Arsenal have been reportedly been long time admirers of the 26 year old and are prepared to step up their interest in the upcoming weeks. With Arsene Wenger now armed with a brand new 2 year contract he is looking to rejuvenate a side that has had to make do with Europa League football next season.

The North London club are yet to make a concrete offer as they monitoring the players situation at the King Power but with Mahrez already saying he wants to leave the East Midlands it would be a surprise if the Leicester hierarchy were to stand in his way.

Once a player declares an interest to leave then it is very hard to convince them to stay, not only that but the owners of the club will have to consider depreciation of their asset therefore the logical conclusion in this situation would be to allow Mahrez to move on to pastures new.

The former Le Havre midfielder would undoubtedly be positive addition to Arsenal’s squad but if a move was to be completed one does have to wonder if he would be drafted in to bolster The Gunners or whether he would be seen as a potential replacement for either Mesut Ozil or Alexis Sanchez.

Perhaps that is a question that will not be answered until nearer the start of next season, the task for Wenger may be to try and convince Mahrez to join the club as part of an improved squad but then should the worst happen and one or both of their star players leave then at least they have already have a replacement in place.

That is something Mahrez may have to weigh up although there is absolutely no doubt that Arsenal are a bigger club than Leicester, would he prepared to perhaps sacrifice regular first team football in a bid to join a side with greater prestige.
