- It’s first blood and very much advantage to Real Madrid after an emphatic win over their cross city rivals last night
- And who else but Cristiano Ronaldo would earn all the plaudits
- If his hat-trick in the Quarter Final against Bayern Munich was somewhat questionable then there was no faulting any of his goals last night
- After becoming the highest league scorer of any of the big five leagues last weekend with a goal in the win over Valencia he then went onto extend his own record as the Champions League highest ever scorer
- He hit the heady heights of 100 against Bayern in the previous round and now the figure reads 103 after his hat-trick at The Bernabeu last night
- Atletico were simply not at the races as Real were quickest out of the traps and they would have their noses in front after just 10 minutes
- Sergio Ramos delivered an inch perfect cross and Ronaldo would be on hand to get his first of the evening
- Jan Oblak made a save initially but the former Manchester United forward was in exactly the right place to smash the ball home at the second time of asking
- Real were dominant from the off, one of the most telling stats was the fact that Atletico had not even had a shot in anger during the first 25 minutes
- Diego Simeone’s men were going to have their work cut out if they were to get a foothold in the game
- It was a quiet night for Antoine Griezmann and could the return leg be the last European game he plays in an Atletico shirt
- Credit to Simeone’s men they had managed to keep the score to a respectable 1-0 at the break but they were easily second best last night
- At half time had you offered the Atletico boss a 1-0 defeat to take back to the Vicente Calderon then he would have probably bitten your arm off
- But how costly will the two goals that Atletico conceded in the second half prove to be
- To be honest I would imagine very much so
- The game last night was put out of reach with 17 minutes when Ronaldo got his second of the night
- This time he was afforded far too much time and space and he unleashed a rocket powered effort past Oblak to double Real Madrid’s advantage
- At this point it was imperative that Atletico did not concede any more but Ronaldo was in the mood for a hat-trick
- One that he finally earned with four minutes to go, he controlled Lucas Vazquez’s cross in plenty of space before firing home
- A simple finish to put the death knell in Atletico’s hopes for the final
- Real are very much in the driving seat for a trip to Cardiff in early June as they look to be the first team to win back to back Champions League trophies and a 12th success overall.
- Atletico have their work cut out if they are to even get close, one thing is for sure and that is that they will have to rediscover their shooting boots
- A paltry one effort on target in what was a very one sided Madrid derby
- Advantage Real
