Real Madrid finally get their man as Savey Davey waves goodbye to Manchester United

An agreement for David De Gea to join Real Madrid from Manchester United is believed to have been reached, with Keylor Navas moving the other way.

The deal is yet to be completed but it will also involve a cash payment from the Spanish giants, taking the overall value to 40m euros (£29m).

De Gea, 24, has been linked with a move to Real throughout the summer.

United manager Louis van Gaal opted not to pick him until the uncertainty over his future had been resolved.

De Gea’s contract is due to expire in 2016 and United had previously indicated they wanted a world-record fee for a goalkeeper, or defender Sergio Ramos in exchange for De Gea.

Instead they will get 28-year-old Navas, who was Costa Rica’s goalkeeper at last year’s World Cup.

Editor’s Note: An incredibly busy day at Old Trafford today but  the longest running transfer saga of the Summer is finally set to reach a conclusion as Real Madrid have finally got their man. From the time that De Gea wasn’t selected for the first Premier League game against Tottenham it was always a matter of when and not if the ex Atletico Madrid Goalkeeper made a return to Spain.

It’s not quite the fee they wanted or the personnel in return but for a player whose contract runs out at the end of this season, they have still driven a relatively hard bargain. Have United been sold short?, possibly but I suppose it’s better than De Gea walking away for nothing after being frozen out for the season.

In return they will get Kaylor Navas as part of the deal, the big question now will now be if Sergio Romero manages to hold onto his place after the mistake against Swansea. Louis Van Gaal with just under a fortnight to make that decision as we now pause for the International break. Another question could be if this is the end of United’s transfer dealings or will there be time and the money for another new face or two to arrive at Old Trafford before the close of the window.
