Real Football Data – The Best Defensive Ratio

The Best Defensive Ratio In The Premier League

Over the past week or so I have been looking at which teams are the most efficient in the Premier League but now I am going to flip matters on it’s head and take a look at it from a defensive stand point. We know by going to my other website Real Football Data  who the most ruthless teams are in each of the five major European leagues.

Now though we can look at who tops the charts from a defensive standpoint; in the work above I have calculated just how many shots a team can face on average before conceding. I will then look to replicate this across France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

In doing that the next step will be to compare the two metrics (shot efficiency and defensive ratio) to then see if there is much difference between the two, for example if a team has a good shot efficiency is it also a side that gives away very little at the back.

It may well be that a team can be efficient in front of goal but also give away a whole host of chances at the other end, this may well be the case in this particular article – without obviously revealing who as you will have to take the time to click the link.

This project is ever increasing but that’s not a bad thing as there is a number of different directions this can go in and we will be able to draw a number of conclusion as the weeks and months continue, so exciting times from a data point of view.

As always thanks to whoscored for the data

I hope this was of interest to you and if you have any football data work available then please contact me at realfootballmanwordpress@gmail.com as I am always looking to undertake additional projects to the ones I already have. Thanks, Dan.
