It’s time to take a look around Europe once again as I talk all things shot efficiency, after dissecting the data in the Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga and Ligue 1 it is now time to focus on Serie A. Now it’s not been a good few days for the Italians after their exit from the World Cup at the hands of Sweden but at the same time this article should make for some prevalent reading.
Italy were outclassed by a resolute defensive performance by Sweden which is quite ironic considering that the Azzurri are meant to be built on a bedrock of defence and in the next few days I will look at just how strong defences in Serie A are as of late.
But first the focus is on the attacking end of the pitch and just how ruthless the 20 teams are in Italy’s top division. It has been a sense of all change in these first few months of the campaign with Napoli sitting at the top of the table but will they turn out to be the most efficient team after 12 weeks of the season.
So now that the major leagues across Europe have been analysed it is time to go one step further and that is to now rank the data in terms of the top 20. 98 clubs have been accounted for and in the next article of this expanding series I will show which teams are the most efficient in front of goal.
The next step after that will be to look at which clubs are the best from a defensive stand point and then from there we will see what correlation there are between how good a team is in attack and also how good they are at keeping goals out.
Thanks as always to whoscored for the data.
I hope this is of interest to you and if you have any football data work available then please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org as I am always looking to undertake additional projects to the ones I already have. Thanks, Dan.
