Real Football Data – Premier League Shot Efficiency – Week 11

Premier League 2017/18 Shot Efficiency – Week 11

After looking at who are the most and least efficient teams in La Liga after the first 10 weeks of the season, I have now decided to cast the net further afield and look at the Premier League after Week 11. The final aim will be to keep track of the five major leagues each week (England, France, Germany, Italy & Spain) and see how a team’s shot efficiency fluctuates throughout the season.

Also at regualr intervals I will then build up a European wide table to see who is the most efficient in team in the major leagues, truth be told we could also look at this from a Champions League and Europa League level if we so wished. Basically any league that I can scrape the data from I can then add into a chart, so the potential for this is limitless.

But before I promise the world and start saying I can analyse every professional league in the world, let’s start simple as I offer you my findings on the Premier League. The top and bottom end’s of the scale will probably cause too much of a surprise but there will certainly be some interesting findings throughout, that I can promise you.

Not only have I ranked the 20 Premier League teams in order of shot efficiency there is also a graph which then shows the variance between where they sit in this particular ranking table and where they sit in the actual Premier League table.

In doing this we can see which teams are overperforming and underperforming in comparison to their league position, so a team could for example sit high in the Premier League but lack ruthlessness when it really matters, anyway there is no point me giving everything away. The best thing you can do is click the link above.

Thanks to whoscored for the data.

I hope this is of interest to you and if you have any football data work available then please contact me at realfootballmanwordpress@gmail.com as I am always looking to undertake additional projects to the ones I already have. Thanks, Dan.
