It was a case of anything Atletico could do then Real could do just as well, where Atletico fired in 7 goals yesterday then Real had to do make do with only 6 as they ran roughshod over Real Betis last night. Los Blancos ran out 6-1 winners in Seville last night.
It was the perfect preparation for their Champions League exploits against Legia Warsaw in midweek as they also keep the pressure up on their cross city rivals Atletico at the top of La Liga. It’s just goal difference separating these two sides at present as both Madrid sides are a point clear of Sevilla in third.
The win would have also been pleasing for Zinedine Zidane not just because of the amount of goals scored but also the fact that it ended a run of three league draws as Real once again found their groove and got back to winning ways.
It was a torrid night for Betis as they found themselves 4-0 down by half time. Goals from Varane, Benzema, Marceloa and Isco made sure of the win. Alvaro Cejudo’s goal to make it 4-1 was nothing but a consolation but there was still time for Isco to add a second and Cristiano Ronaldo to get in on the act. Although he will probably be more remembered for blazing over from a yard with an open goal gaping.
Here is all you need to know from last night
