Premier League Interest In The Joy Of Cesc

Chelsea’s charge to the top of the Premier League table has been in no small part down to their first eleven which has on so many occasions be the same from week to week. With familiarity brings confidence and with that Chelsea have steamrollered all before them this season. But what has meant for Cesc Fabregas

It’s no secret that he has found it hard to call a first team berth his own this season with his long term future at Stamford Bridge once again being called into question. Many had the Spanish international earmarked for at least a loan move in January as the exit door loomed close.

A move away from West London did not materialise in the end but with the end of the season just weeks away it more importantly signals the start of the Summer transfer window and once again the whispers surronding Fabregas’ Chelsea status are beginning to get louder.

That is because not one but two Premier League teams are set to be eyeing up a move for Fabregas in the Summer. In the red corner you have Manchester United and a possible link up once again with Jose Mourinho, while in the other red corner I guess is surprisingly Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.

Jose Mourinho going back to his former club and trying to purchase fringe players is something has been read on a number of occasions as of late, with Kurt Zouma believed to be another potential target but could Fabregas make a move up North and add a third Premier League club to his C.V.

It almost comes down to the case of where Fabregas could realistically end up after Chelsea, he has already returned to La Liga after a spell with boyhood club Barcelona and in fairness it was one that was not all that much of a success due to the fact that he only captured one league title in his time back at the Nou Camp.

With another return to Barcelona off the cards, it would also seem highly unlikely that he would move to their arch rivals Real Madrid. It could have been a move that may have come off pre Barcelona but Fabregas’ stock has fallen since and therefore Spain looks to be off the table.

Taking those two clubs out of the equation the only other possible destination is that of Atletico Madrid but they themselves have their own worries as to whether or not Diego Simeone stays on past this Summer and whether or not a new incumbent has Cesc Fabregas on their shopping list remains to be seen.

With Spanish options few and far between the only other possible destination is that of Italy but the stumbling block here is the fact that Fabregas has gone on record by saying he is not interested in a move to the likes of Inter or A.C Milan.

Therefore it almost seems as if he will move to England by default, should his time at Stamford Bridge come to an end this Summer. The Mourinho link makes sense but the link to Liverpool will certainly raise some eyebrows but at the same time should not be a massive shock.

Liverpool perhaps lack players who have been there and done it and Cesc Fabregas has got the t-shirt, then again he has multiple t-shirts. A World Cup Winner and twice European Champion would definitely add another element to Liverpool’s midfield.

If Fabregas was to pick Liverpool then a lot would depend on whether or not they do qualify for the Champions League and the same could be said for Manchester United also. Should they both miss out on the top four or a Europa League win in United’s case then the appeal is slightly dimmed.

So if that is to be the case then Cesc Fabregas will have to decide what he wants most, a bit part in a probable defense of the Premier League title or taking on a new challenge and trying to be part of a title race at either Anfield or Old Trafford. I guess we will have to watch this space.
