No Mousa Dembele

When fit Mousa Dembele is one of the first names on the Tottenham team sheet, but unfortunately for the Belgian international those days seem to be fewer and further between due to a string of niggling injuries. While it is that constant lack of fitness that may well have his employers wondering if it is now time to cash in on their once prized asset.

Sky Sports News have reported this morning that the Milan duo, A.C. and Inter are both monitoring the situation in regards to Dembele’s long term future with the club especially as the midfielder only has 18 months left on his Tottenham contract.

With Dembele’s injury history becoming longer and longer the likelihood of him being awarded a new contract by Daniel Levy is looking progressively slimmer with each absence he occurs and the club chairman will now look to make sure that some form of transfer fee is recouped.

The current situation is that a move in January would come around too early for either of the Italian club but there is also a reluctant acceptance within the Tottenham hierarchy that the 30 year old’s best days are probably behind him what with him always in an ongoing battle with fitness.

There is no doubting the talents of the former Fulham player but the fact that he has only made nine Premier League starts this season means that manager Mauricio Pochettino can no longer rely on him at the same level in which has done so in the past couple of seasons.

The emergence of Harry Winks has softened the blow when Dembele is on the treatment table instead of the pitch but at the same time the North London outfit will be looking ahead to the Summer when they will aim to purchase a long term successor.
