Moyes decides to Park Villa job proposal

Yesterday it was announced that David Moyes had pulled out of the running to become the next Aston Villa Manager. He was one of three men interviewed for the job on Thursday but with Moyes’ withdrawal it is set to be a two horse race

Last week Chinese Businessman Dr Tony Xia bought the club for £60m and had plans to immediately get the Birmingham club back on their feat after relegation last season. The first port of call was to appoint a new Manager

David Moyes had been repeatedly linked with the post since the sacking of Remi Garde and many felt after less than successful stints at both Manchester United and Real Sociedad this could have been an ideal opportunity for Moyes to restore some credibility to a damaged C.V

But with such a rebuilding job required at Villa Park this season and probably beyond maybe the Ex Everton Manager Moyes didn’t have the appetite for the fight or maybe he still feels he can do a job in the Premier League

There’s no obvious vacancy open yet for Moyes, yes the Everton job is available but there’s the old adage in Football that you should never go back and for someone in Moyes’ precarious position a return there may do more damage to an already shaky reputation

So Moyes’ managerial exile continues but the question now is who will take the Villa Park hotseat. It’s now a straight fight between Roberto Di Matteo and Nigel Pearson

Two very different Managers with very different Football philosophies. The task now for new owner Dr Tony Xia is does he go with the pragmatism of Nigel Pearson or the more cultured Roberto Di Matteo

One performed the great escape with Leicester before getting the sack and one a Champions League winner with Chelsea they couldn’t really be further apart in style

It’s going to be interesting to see what direction that the new Chinese owner goes in but one thing we know for certain is that it won’t be a Scot taking the Villa Park helm

  1. I don’t think he would be tempted to drop down a division, think the only thing tempting him to that job would be money or even the fact that Villa are still a big club, so taking them back into the Premier League could land him other bigger jobs in the future. However think it will be a while before he takes over a big a club as Manchester United.

    • A good point Macauley – he needs to be careful he doesn’t stay out of the game for too long otherwise his stock will decrease further

      Thanks for your comment
