Middlesbrough vs Crystal Palace – Match Preview

Middlesbrough solid start to the season would have certainly raised a few eyebrows as they are unbeaten in their first three fixtures, that said the fixture computer has been incredibly kind to them and it seems like their luck is in again as they play host to Crystal Palace this afternoon.

It’s a much changed ‘Boro side from the one that gained promotion from The Championship on the last day of last season but the new signings have settled well with former Manchester City forward Alvaro Negredo already looking like somewhat of an inspired purchase.

He couldn’t find the net in their last outing before the international break as they were held to a 0-0 draw away at West Brom but he has already forged an impressive partnership with Cristhian Stuani and manager Aitor Karanka will be hoping that his forward tandem blossoms against Alan Pardew’s side.

Pardew will be cursing his luck as after thinking that he had finally sorted his own forward personnel shortage with the loan signing of Loic Remy, the French international has now been ruled out for two months and that means the chance for Remy to play under Pardew’s stewardship again has been delayed.

That said they can still point to new record signing Christian Benteke as a source of goals. The Belgian international is still looking for his first Premier League goal in a Palace shirt and he’ll be hoping that today is the day that he breaks his duck.

Before the international break Palace had Scott Dann to thank for salvaging a late point at home to Bournemouth. One that gave them their first point of the season but the fact they are already in a group of 5 teams with just a solitary point to their name must be somewhat of a concern.

Palace haven’t given away too much at the back only conceding a goal per game but it’s the lack of attacking endeavor that will be an ongoing issue. They managed to stave off any interest from Tottenham for winger Wilifried Zaha and much will be required from him and Andros Townsend this afternoon.

I think ‘Boro have looked impressive since their return to the Premier League, they’ve almost gone about it the right away by saying that they know their side will need a large overhaul if it’s to have any chance of staying up. Loyalty is an honourbale trait in football but it can only get you so far.

With them unbeaten in their opening three matches I see no reason why that run will not continue this afternoon, even more than that I think they will go on and win against Palace and maybe even be as high as 4th by the end of the day. A home win for me.
