Middlesbrough vs Bournemouth – Match Preview

It’s been a barren run of results for Middlesbrough as Aitor Karanka’s side sit just above the relegation zone, if it wasn’t for the fact that Hull are leaking goals left, right and centre then the ‘Boro could very well be in the bottom three. Today they play host to Bournemouth hoping to get a first win since August.

That solitary victory came at the expense of local rivals Sunderland but that has arguably been the only high point of the season so far as they now have gone 7 games without a win. The problem for ‘Boro is that the goals have dried up as they have only found the net on seven occasions so far this season.

Although they have failed to win since that aforementioned victory over Sunderland last weekend’s point against Arsenal at The Emirates may have felt like a win. Not many gave them hope of getting a result and to come away with a point with helped their confidence. They now need to use that as a springboard to go out and get a result this afternoon.

Their opponents Bournemouth also played out a 0-0 draw last Saturday and some may even argue that they were perhaps unlucky to win at home to Tottenham. It was a solid performance from Bournemouth who kept Mauricio Pochettino’s men at bay and stopped the North London side going top.

That point sees Bournemouth sit 10th in the league and after somewhat of a slow start it’s fair to say that Eddie Howe’s men have now found their stride. They are 4 games unbeaten with a 6-1 home win over Hull showing that they do have a ruthless streak they just don’t use it often enough.

Once again for The Cherries the aim this season will be survival but the hope will be that they can finish higher than last season’s debut effort and perhaps even finish in the top half of the table. If Eddie Howe was to pull off that feat then it could only help his chances of getting the England job (that is if he wants it so soon)

But that is further down the line with the immediate task being the trip to Middlesbrough. ‘Boro will come into this game with some confidence but Bournemouth are playing the better football as of late, so I’ll make Bournemouth the favourites. Both teams to score but Eddie Howe’s men to come away with the points.
