Match Of The Day a few quick thoughts

  • The Manchester Derby did actually live up to the hype in all fairness, so often games are hyped beyond all reality and we end up with a tepid affair where neither team would rather not lose than win but credit to both sides they certainly went for it
  • City were easily on top as they raced into a 2-0 lead before Claudio Bravo did his best handling of a hot potato impression to hand United a way back into the game
  • Bravo just about stumbled through the game as United failed to get an equaliser and there subsequent 100% record has now disappeared
  • For City though it’s four wins from four for Pep Guardiola’s side as they lay down an early Premier League marker
  • Chaos at West Ham as they gave away what looked like a comfortable 2-0 lead to somehow lose 4-2 at The London Stadium
  • It seems like it was chaos both on and off the pitch for The Hammers, hapless defending after going in front and then fighting in the stands between their own fans as Slaven Bilic’s side capitulated
  • For Watford it’s a much welcomed first win of the season and also a first ever win as Watford manager for Walter Mazzari
  • With the transfer window now closed he should be able to work out what his best eleven is and build on Saturday’s victory
  • Champions Leicester were soundly beaten by Liverpool at Anfield as the hosts unveiled the rebuilding of their main stand
  • It was an almost perfect performance for Liverpool as they ran out 4-1 winners. Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are proving to be quite the double act. The Brazilian bagging a brace while Mane opened the scoring
  • For Leicester they may have to think about adapting their tactics now that N’Golo Kante is not in the middle of the park. Food for thought for Claudio Ranieri
  • Stoke vs Tottenham you can read in more detail here – http://realfootballman.com/football/stoke-vs-tottenham-quick-thoughts-2/
  • Arsenal were handed a massive get out of jail free card yesterday after being handed an injury time penalty at home to Southampton
  • Santi Cazorla subsequently stepped up and scored to give Arsenal all three points after going behind through a Petr Cech Own Goal
  • Shkodran Mustafi had a decent first game but the same couldn’t be said about Lucas Perez at the other end of the pitch
  • Harsh on Southampton who not only are still looking for their first win of the season but have now dropped into the bottom three
  • Crystal Palace picked up their first win of the season thanks to goals from Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha
  • Alan Pardew believes that Zaha is a £50m pound player, if he played like he did on Saturday every week then perhaps he may have a case
  • Callum Wilson scored his first Premier League goal since his lengthy layoff to give Bournemouth their first win of the season against West Brom
  • Jack Wilshere didn’t start as he is still lacking full fitness, although that surely goes against the reason why he was loaned out to Bournemouth in the first place
  • As for West Brom that defeat heaps more pressure on Tony Pulis as they turn in another relatively uneventful performance
  • In the battle of the two promoted sides it was honours even as Hull and Burnley had to make do with a share of the points
  • Two goals from the top drawer firstly from Burnley’s new signing Steven Defour who thought he did enough to give Burnley a second win of the season
  • Only for Robert Snodgrass to nestle home a free kick in the 5th minute of injury time.
  • Both teams would have wanted the win but they will settle for a point
