Real Football Man All of the Football, All of the time
In a week where Juventus will be wanting to forget their Champions League Final performance after suffering a thrashing at the hands of Real Madrid they at least can end that handful of days with some good news, news that sees their current manger committing his future to the Old Lady.
That is because Massimiliano Allegri has signed a new contract with Juventus until 2020, after all the disappointment of Cardiff that will at least give Juventus fans something to smile about. The 49 year old was linked with a switch to Arsenal a few months ago but as we now know nothing ever came about what with Arsene Wenger staying at The Emirates helm.
Allegri who replaced Antonio Conte in the Juventus hot seat has had a very successful spell since being in charge of the Italian giants. He may have had to deal with two Champions League Final defeats with a loss to Barcelona in 2015 in addition to the one suffered last weekend but his trophy haul is not one to be sneered at.
In the three seasons he has been in charge it has been three successive Serie A and Coppa Italia doubles, while also masterminding Juventus to a sixth Italian title in a row this season, the only thing that has alluded him is a historic treble which a win in Europe’s top club competition would bring.
On the announcement of the new contract the club said “Today’s agreement extends a working relationship that has seen the Bianconeri consolidate their position as Italy’s top team and also evolve into one of European football’s major forces.”
There is no question of their domestic dominance but the real task in hand for Allegri is to build a side which can finally get over the line in the Champions League. The Old Lady is always the bridesmaid and never the bride with 5 defeats in finals since 1997, can Allegri finally end the final jinx next season 22 years after Juventus beat Ajax.
