Manchester United vs West Ham – Match Preview

Manchester United are without striker Wayne Rooney because of an ankle injury, while Marcos Rojo is out with a dislocated shoulder.

Jesse Lingard returns after a minor problem, but Ander Herrera and Phil Jones remain unavailable.

West Ham striker Diafra Sakho will be sidelined for two months with a thigh injury and is likely to be replaced by Andy Carroll.

Midfielder Mark Noble and defender James Collins are both available after completing suspensions.

Editor’s Note: Manchester United are unbeaten in 6 matches and sit just one point of the top of the table in 3rd but the performances on the pitch haven’t been particularly pretty. I suppose the argument boils down to whether you want pragmatic Football that gets results or do you want attacking flair?, at the moment it seems as if Louis Van Gaal is opting for the former much to the displeasure of the Old Trafford faithful.

Their lack of attacking options problem will be exacerbated tomorrow by the fact that Wayne Rooney is injured then again his performances have been so abject you have to ask yourselves whether it’s a hindrance or actually a help.

Last week their tactics against Leicester were set up not to lose and they did exactly that only they didn’t win either and the negativity of their gameplan did rankle with fans and pundits alike, tomorrow they play host to a West Ham side who have certainly lost their spark since the injury to Dimitri Payet.

In those two games West Ham have only picked up a point, which came last Sunday in the home draw against West Brom but now also have to contend with the news that Diafra Sakho is out for 2 months.

That said The Hammers have had a lot of joy on the road this season with wins at Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City but that was when Payet was pulling the strings so tomorrow could be a different proposition.

I think United will be comfortable enough at home tomorrow and will get all 3 points against West Ham.
