Liverpool vs Hoffenheim – Match Highlights

Liverpool have booked their place in today’s Champions League group stage draw after a win over Hoffenheim last night in what can only be described as a frenetic encounter. Jurgen Klopp’s men ran out 4-2 winners in the end, a result which saw them progress by an aggregate 6-3 scoreline.

Anfield was treated to six goals last night but in fairness it could have been a lot more. It was certainly an entertaining game for the neutral and although Liverpool’s early ascendancy took the sting out of Hoffenheim they could never quite relax until the final whistle.

Emre Can opened the scoring for the home side as his deflected effort found the net after 10 minutes, they could however been in front just three minutes when Sadio Mane’s run had split the Hoffenheim back three, that effort ws saved but the German side did not learn their lesson and were suitably punished.

It would be 2-0 eight minutes later when Mohamed Salah was perfectly placed to tap home a rebound after Georginio Wijnaldum’s effort hit the post. Hoffenheim now had to score three goals to advance while not conceding anymore.

Three minutes they would have to score four as Emre Can scored his second of the night, Liverpool were scintillating in the first half of the first half as they raced into a 3-0 lead, surely it was a case of job done as the game was in danger of turning into a procession.

Hoffenheim did however show a glimmer of hope when they punished a Dejan Lovren mistake, the ball would eventually find its way to Mark Uth who after scoring in the first leg would repeat the feat in the second. He had only been on the pitch for three minutes after a tactical reshuffle but he had now found the net.

Liverpool would restore their three goal advantage through Roberto Firmino on 63 minutes and that would surely make it that in terms of progressing to the group stages of the competition, that however was not the last of the scoring as Sandro Wagner headed in Andrej Kramaric’s left-wing cross for a scant consolation.

Liverpool join the other five British clubs who will be patiently waiting to see who they are paired up with later this afternoon.
