Liverpool sign Goalkeeper Loris

Don’t worry Tottenham fans it’s not Hugo Lloris departing for Anfield and I’ve incorrectly spelled his name in the article title it’s Liverpool who have been busy in the transfer market as they announce the signing of Loris Karius from Mainz.

The Europa League Runners Up have signed Karius for £4.7m and the 22 year old joins Jurgen Klopp’s side on a 5 year deal. The former Manchester City youngster has been bought in to provide competition for Belgium international Simon Mignolet, who was first choice last season.

Mignolet was handed a 5 year contract in January but his performances have come in for some criticism this season. Although there are times when Mignolet was at fault in terms of letting in an opposition strike there have been countless times when he has bailed Liverpool out of a mess.

The Europa League Final being a perfect example, yes Liverpool were on the losing side but if it wasn’t for Mignolet the result could have been even more embarrassing then again does that say more about Liverpool’s Defence then it does Mignolet

I guess though that’s the nature of being a Goalkeeper though, it’s only really the mistakes that are highlighted but again you could argue that keeping the ball out is what they are paid to do so why should a save come in for such high praise. Who’d be a Goalkeeper?

As for Karius he won’t be the only player joining from the Bundesliga with the signing of Schalke’s Cameroon International Joel Matip already announced. Matip will join the club on July 1

That’s two players coming from the Bundesliga and Liverpool would love the trio to be completed by Mario Gotze. But in my opinion they needed Champions League Football that a Europa League win would have bought, with that defeat to Sevilla last Wednesday I would be very surprised if that move ever comes to fruition

And at least Liverpool fans will have one thing to celebrate – the signing of Karius all but spells the end of Adam Bogdan’s Liverpool career
