Leicester vs Tottenham – Premier League Match Preview

Four Premier League matches take place up and down the country this evening and the King Power Stadium is one of them as Leicester play host to Tottenham with both teams coming into this game having to make do with a share of the points at the weekend.

Leicester started Week 13 of the season with a Friday night fixture in East London and although they went ahead thanks to Marc Albrighton’s first half strike they were then pegged back just before the break by Cheikhou Kouyate’s close range effort.

It was a third league game without a win for Leicester, although that spell has seen them earn two points from a possible nine. That additional point on Friday sees them currently sit 12th in the Premier League while four points clear of Friday’s opposition West Ham who are in 18th.

Leicester are the highest scoring team in the bottom half of the Premier League with 17 goals to their name but their undoing has been the fact that for all their attacking endeavour they have conceded 19 at the other end, an average of 1.46 goals against per game.

A point on the road on Friday night against a West Ham side who needed to offer a performance after their own miserable run is not one to be sniffed at, although on the basis of their first half dominance they will perhaps be unhappy that they did not capitalise on their opportunities when they had the chance.

They will look to put that right this evening when they play host to a Tottenham side who have not won any of their last two league outings. Defeat in the North London derby was then followed up by a frustrating draw on Saturday at home to West Brom.

There is no denying that they conceded a soft goal early on when Salomon Rondon slipped the ball past a statue like Salomon Rondon but Tottenham for all their attacking endeavour could only grab themselves a late equaliser by who else than Harry Kane.

It was nothing short of a frustrating afternoon for Tottenham especially as they had 73% of the ball, you could argue that when they have much of the ball they don’t know what to do with it as they continue to struggle to break down the lesser teams in this division.

It is almost as if teams have now identified a template in which to frustrate Tottenham at Wembley with four of the six performances at the national stadium being lacklustre and that does not even include the defeat to Chelsea in week two of the season.

With Spurs on the road this evening the hope will be that they can once again show how good they are on the counter attack, the three dominant performances at Wembley for Mauricio Pochettino’s men have come with an average possession of just 40%

Wins over Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool showed that it’s not necessarily how much possession you have but what you do with the ball once you have it. It’s almost as if Tottenham have become a counter attacking team at home which is something of a fallacy.

Not only that but Harry Kane has been responsible for 43% of Tottenham’s league goals this season, not really dispelling the notion that they aren’t the ‘Harry Kane team’ you do get the feeling that other players are now going to have to pick up the slack.

That said I think they will be favourites tonight and with Leicester not being the all guns blazing outfit of a couple of seasons ago it should give Spurs the advantage. I don’t expect a repeat of the 6-1 win back in May but I think they will deliver all three points. An away win for me.
