Juventus book their place in the Champions League Final after a 2-1 win over Monaco last night
It means that Massimo Allegri’s side will take part in their second final in the space of three seasons
After being 2-0 up from the first leg, the advantage was very much with the Turin side and it was going to have to take quite the turn around from Monaco to book their first final berth since 2004
Unfortunately it was not to be a fairytale comeback for this young Monaco side and all they won have won many plaudits this season, they have just fallen short at the Semi Final stage
Monaco’s task would be made even harder on 33 minutes when Mario Mandzukic made it 3-0 on aggregate as the Croatian international opened the scoring
Mandzukic would score at the second time of asking after seeing his initial header saved
As a contest that was about as good as it got with Leonardo Jardim’s side now needing 4 goals to advance
Their plight would be made even worse before the break though
Dani Alves was on hand to score the pick of the goals not just for the night but arguably of the competition
It was the kind of goal that Tottenham fans would remember when Danny Rose scored against Arsenal on his debut
As the ball was punched to the edge of the box, the Brazilian sent the ball back with interest as it scorched into the net
2-0 on the night, 4-0 on aggregate. Game over
Monaco would earn themselves a scant consolation when Kylian Mbappe scored halfway through the second half to reduce the deficit on the night
They certainly deserved that for their efforts across the two legs and Mbappe would have added a bit more to his probable transfer fee this Summer
The key will be whether or not Monaco can hold on to their star players in the off season, which in fairness is unlikely so this is most the likely the last we will see of this young team on the biggest stage
As for Juventus they move on to Cardiff at the start of the next month where they will more than likely be in a titanic battle with holders Real Madrid. It should be a mouth watering clash
