January BBC Gossip Column Debunked – Issue 1

Yes that’s right we are back. With the transfer window re-opening it means there are going to be an awful lot of rumours to debunk over the next month, so think of me as a conduit for all the hearsay that you will read or listen to in January so without further ado let’s have a look at this New Year’s Day serving of gossip.

As always – gossip in plain text, may views in bold

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed talk of a rift between striker Alexis Sanchez, 29, and the rest of the squad. (Sky Sports) Supposedly the rest of the squad are not happy with him and would rather he moved on this month. The Chilean international has scored four goals in last three matches, they should perhaps not be that hasty

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola refused to rule out a fresh approach for Sanchez after Gabriel Jesus sustained a suspected knee injury against Crystal Palace on Sunday. (Talksport) Arsenal could name their price, whatever it may be Manchester City will pay it.

Southampton want to sign 28-year-old Arsenal winger Theo Walcott on loan in January. (Mail) A move that could be beneficial for both clubs, Southampton need some more creativity in their team while Walcott could certainly do with a fresh start.

Manchester United hope midfielder Paul Pogba can help persuade Juventus striker Paulo Dybala, 24, to sign for the club. (Mail) Maybe Pogba could do a dance for him to seduce the forward?

Meanwhile, Mourinho is urging Manchester United’s owners to release the funds to buy striker Antoine Griezmann, 26, from Atletico Madrid. (Express) I hope this isn’t this month’s “Ivan Perisic” transfer saga, that was so boring come the end of the Summer

Tottenham are in no rush to agree a new contract with defender Toby Alderweireld, 28, despite his current deal allowing him to leave in the summer of 2019 for £25m. (Mirror) I don’t think anyone will be relaxed until the Belgian defender puts pen to paper on a new deal.

Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, 22, will join Bayern Munich on a free transfer this summer. (Bild – in German) Disappointment for a number of Premier League clubs who were linked with the German international.

Everton target Steven N’Zonzi is set for talks with Sevilla over his future at the club. The 29-year-old midfielder fell out with former boss Eduardo Berizzo. (Liverpool Echo) Also been linked with a move to Arsenal this month, but I would put Everton as the firm favourites should a move come to fruition.
