Imagine Lennon as new Hibernian Manager

After the departure of Alan Stubbs to Rotherham, Scottish Championship side Hibernian have moved quickly in filling that vacancy with the appointment of ex Celtic and Bolton Manager Neil Lennon.

Lennon has been out of work since leaving Bolton Wanderers back in March. The 44-year-old will be assisted by former Leicester City teammate Garry Parker at Easter Road.

After such success at Celtic, he was always going to be up against it when in charge of Bolton. When he took over the club had an initial surge in results and performance but then he was hamstrung by financial matters of the pitch

He left the club before they slid into League One for next season and it’s fair to say his stock took a bit of a hammering after his spell at the Macron Stadium, so if he can get success with Hibs and that can now only be measured by a return to the Scottish Premier League then this could be an ideal job for him to get back in the limelight

Hibs missed out on promotion to the Premier League for the second season in a row after losing out in the play-offs. Last time around it was to Falkirk but that disappointment in the league was tempered by the fact that they won their first Scottish Cup in 114 years with a dramatic win against Scottish Championship winners Glasgow Rangers

That win also means they will be playing in the Europa League next season which would have made the job an attractive proposition and with Lennon’s knowledge and experience they almost seem like the perfect fit for each other

This job will be a real test of how good Lennon’s managerial skills actually are, rolling to victory in a one horse race with Celtic ultimately proves nothing while his time at Bolton didn’t allow him to show what attributes he actually had, so this job will show once and for all what Lennon is like as a manager

But you would imagine that Hibs fans will be aiming for nothing less than a Championship title this time around
