Huddersfield vs Leicester – Premier League Match Preview

Huddersfield’s unbeaten record came to an end on Monday night as West Ham picked up a much welcomed first win of the season, it is fair to say that the Hammers were fortunate in the manner of which they broke the deadlock and saw David Wagner’s men concede their first goal of the season.

After going behind it is fair to say that the wind was knocked out of their sails as they soon conceded but this afternoon they will look to put that all behind them as they play host to a Leicester side which has only one once in their first four matches.

The fixture computer has not been particularly kind to Leicester at the start of this campaign especially as their performances have not warranted the amount of points that they arguably deserve. That however is a situation they will look to amend this afternoon as they will identify the trip to Huddersfield as something of a winnable fixture.

Huddersfield can have few complaints about their start to the season, if there was to be one issue that could be raised it is the fact, they have scored just once in their last three matches. They may be slightly goal shy but even so that has still earned them four points. That said they cannot rely on an average of just a goal a game throughout this season.

Leicester were unfortunate not to have earned a point at home to Chelsea last weekend at the King Power Stadium, they could not be faulted for effort as Jamie Vardy’s penalty set up something of a grandstand finish. However their efforts were to be in vein as Antonio Conte’s men did enough to hold out for victory.

Disappointment for Leicester but you get the feeling if that level of performance can be maintained especially in the immediacy of this afternoon then you get the feeling that they will begin to progress further up the Premier League table.

Rightly or wrongly we are already talking about and perhaps more sadly witnessing managers already lose their jobs at this level. I’m not sure if people will be asking questions of Craig Shakespeare if his side are on the losing side this afternoon but he would do himself no harm should they manage to pick up a first away win of the season.

As for the outcome, I think Leicester will take encouragement from their performance last weekend while on the other hand this will be something of an acid test for Huddersfield as they look to bounce back from a defeat at the start of the week. I’m going to go for a Leicester win at the John Smith’s Stadium.
