Gossip Column Inches – Part 9

After a relatively small dose of transfer gossip yesterday, we are back with a Sunday special to close the week off. This is where the back pages ramp up the rumour mill and with just four days until the Premier League window closes, there’s not a lot of time left to do a deal or two. Here’s today’s bundle.

Gossip in normal font, my thoughts in bold

Manchester United and France midfielder Paul Pogba’s agent is expected to tell the Red Devils he can broker a £100m move for the 25-year-old World Cup winner to Barcelona. (Daily Star Sunday) Whether he can and whether he does are ultimately two different things

Meanwhile, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is plotting a deadline day move for England defender Harry Maguire, 25, who is valued at £80m by Leicester. (Sunday Express) Ok so who is it to be, Maguire

Manchester United are also closing in a £60m deal to sign Tottenham’s Belgium defender Toby Alderweireld, 29. (Sunday Mirror) Or Alderweireld

However, Manchester United’s £35m move for Barcelona and Colombia defender Yerry Mina has collapsed because of a row over agent’s fees. (S*n on Sunday) But certainly not Mina.

Chelsea are lining up a £35m move for Arsenal and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey, 27. (Sunday Express) It was Liverpool yesterday, I cannot see Arsenal selling Ramsey to one of their nearest rivals, it just doesn’t make sense.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will hold talks with Belgium forward Eden Hazard on Monday and offer the 27-year-old a new £300,000-a-week contract to dissuade him from joining Real Madrid. (Sunday Times – subscription required) Chelsea’s last roll of the dice, then again don’t forget he could still leave before the end of the August. So worrying times for the Blues.

Manchester United will offer France forward Anthony Martial, 22, to Chelsea in exchange for Brazil winger Willian, 29, with both players valued at £75m. (Sunday Mirror) Chelsea should bite United’s arm off if they are offered that

Wolves have made a £16m bid for Besiktas and Croatia defender Domagoj Vida, 29. (Sabah – in Turkish) Wolves mean business don’t they, I reckon they’ll finish in the top half this season.

Jose Mourinho could become the next Portugal manager if he leaves Manchester United. (Sunday Mirror) Is that because he has burnt his bridges at all the clubs he has previously managed at.

Leicester are close to signing Algeria winger Rachid Ghezzal, 26, from Monaco. The player had also been targeted by Watford and Southampton. (ESPN) Leicester once again looking for the Algerian connection, whether he is the new Riyad Mahrez or not remains to be seen.

Arsenal have accepted a £4.45m bid from Sporting Lisbon for Spanish striker Lucas Perez, 29. (A Bola – in Portuguese) The forgotten man of Arsenal’s attack looks like calling time on his stint at the Emirates.

Fulham have enquired about signing Real Madrid’s French left-back Theo Hernandez, 20, on loan. (Mail on Sunday) That would be quite the capture for Fulham, it could also mean Ryan Sessegnon can play further up the pitch.

AC Milan are preparing a £106.9m offer for Lazio’s Serbia midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, 23. (La Stampa – in Italian) AC Milan’s new owners are not mucking about are they, truth be told it would be great for someone else to win Serie A this season.

Inter Milan are ready to offer £35.6m for Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric, 32. (Il Giornale – in Italian) Not quite the £670m that Real Madrid are looking for.

Rayo Vallecano are in talks to sign former Paris St-Germain and Newcastle midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa, 31, on a free transfer. The France midfielder is a free agent. (Marca) There’s no doubting his talent, his temperament on the other hand….
