Good Evans as Cellino says ciao to Manager No 6

Massimo Cellino has wielded the axe again in what must be the Football League’s most hottest hotseat. The vacancy sign is in the window at Elland Road again after Steve Evans was given his marching orders last night by Italian owner Cellino

The former Rotherham Manager Evans guided Leeds to 13th in the table, after taking charge of the club when they found themselves 18th. So their was a relative level of improvement during the Scots tenure but as we know by now Massimo Cellino is a hard man to please

Former Crawley Town boss Evans was on a 12 month rolling contract but the writing g was very much on the wall once an approach was put in for Bristol Rovers Darrell Clarke. Clarke is fresh off of masterminding back to back promotions with Rovers and is seemingly in demand

But after talks with Leeds were given the greenlight by the Bristol Rovers board, Clarke felt that it wasn’t to be the right move for him and with the rate that Leeds get through coaching staff as of late then frankly who can blame him

With Clarke turning down the approach it all but made Evans’s role at the club untenable. Even after Evans went on record to the press declaring he still had an interest in staying on as Leeds boss it wasn’t to be enough for him to be spared the sack

He leaves with long time assistant Paul Raynor but the question is who will be the seventh man to take charge of Elland Road affairs since Cellino’s stewardships. Will the unpredictability of the job scare off of a lot of potential targets

We’ve already seen it with Darrell Clarke although maybe you could make a case that he would be silly to walk away from such a secure job to the madhouse which is Leeds United as of late. For an out of work Manager, in essence it is still a big club and the thought of getting Leeds back in the top flight may be an attractive prospect but working with a trigger happy Italian owner may very well dampen that optimism somewhat

If you are to believe the bookies this Morning then former Swansea Manager Garry Monk is the outright favourite. Monk could be quite fitting not just in stature but in name also as you would have to imagine he will need to take a vow of silence if he is to remain in charge for a long time. Then again what would you class a long time at Leeds these days?
