A Fringe Tottenham Side Just Cut Through Barnsley

Tottenham Hotspur are in the hat for the 4th Round draw of this season’s Carabao Cup after eventually getting the better of Barnsley at a very sparse looking Wembley yesterday evening.

The fact that this fixture meant that it was the third home game in a row in less than a week would have no doubt created some apathy and that would have been further extended by the fact that Tottenham laboured to a stalemate against Swansea last Saturday.

It is a situation that would have been further exercabated by the fact that Mauricio Pochettino has made it very clear that this particular competition sits at the bottom of his priorities this season.

With that in mind you can understand why fans were not in a particular rush to make their way to England’s national stadium last night with many correctly anticipating that there would be a much changed side to the one that laboured against Paul Clement’s men at the weekend.

That said it was still a side brimming with international talent and it is one of that select group that would ultimately prove to be the difference last night. Dele Alli who is currently walking a FIFA disciplinary tightrope would finally break the deadlock with 25 minutes to spare and that would offer palpable relief to the relative handful of fans in attendance.

You get the feeling that had Tottenham not progressed last night then it would have not really been the end of the world as far as Mauricio Pochettino is concerned, that said progression in the competition is still a nice problem to have.

If you think Tottenham can go all the way in this season’s Carabao Cup then why not take advantage of these bookmakers free bets which are currently on offer.
It could be a scenario where the club begrudgingly advances, I guess a lot will hinge on the draw for the next round which takes place later in the week.
