Football INDEX – Always Invest In Zlatan

They used to say ‘Always Invest In Gold’ well I have an updated version to that ‘Always Invest In Zlatan’ – that is the strategy that I have now undertaken and it’s fair to say that the portfolio that was a rudderless ship after the first weekend is now looking a lot more steady thanks to the mercurial Swede.

In my previous Football INDEX review, (don’t forget you can try your own luck and sign up to create your own portfolio here ) I changed tactics of a spread out portfolio and invested all my funds into one commodity.

The logic behind that change was the fact that if you spread to thin like I did then you are relying on 6 players performing well each week to get a return on your investment. Not only that but with a £10 outlay and 6 players you are not necessarily adding world class players to your portfolio.

So therefore the likes of Nathan Redmond and Andros Townsend are not going to make anyone reach in any form of life, hence they were dumped along with the likes of Romelu Lukaku and even Cristiano Ronaldo who was at a surprisingly low share price.

With me selling all my stock and having to take a hit with the sellers commission it meant I had just £8.99 to spend, I had already lost 10.1% of my portfolio value. Professional investors will probably be shaking their heads thinking ‘what is he doing’

Well what I did was this. I purchased two shares in Zlatan Ibrahimovic at £4.10 each

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – £4.10 – 2 Shares – Total Outlay – £8.20

Therefore I had two shares in Zlatan and a 79p reserve going forward with the focus very much being on Thursday night’s Europa League’s tie against Saint Etienne.

And boy did the man deliver, in a very big way. A Zlatan hat-trick has seen his share price rise very nicely as of writing it now looks as follows

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – £4.34 – 2 Shares – Total Worth – £8.68

Therefore I’ve added 48p to my portfolio and I’m rich beyond my most wildest dreams. But there’s more, I’ve also received my first share dividend thanks to Zlatan’s efforts earlier in the week.

That is because there is a seperate buzz chart where whoever has the best performance and in turn had the most trading activity will find themselves top of that chart. For every day a player is top of the chart if you hold shares in that player, you receive 5p.

So 2 days at the top of the charts and two shares in Zlatan has seen me handed an extra 20p which goes straight into the reserve.

Therefore the portfolio now looks as follows

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – £4.34 – 2 Shares – Total Worth – £8.68 and a 99p reserve. Total portfolio is now £9.67

After being 10.1% down on investement, I’ve managed to get down to just a 3.3% loss. Ok it’s still a loss but after my woes of the first week, it’s back in the right direction with the aim to be at least break even within the next few days. The hope is that Zlatan plays in the F.A. Cup on Sunday and delivers another top performance which sees the share price rocket.

Don’t forget this is just a trial run with an original outlay of £1o, so you may read this and scoff and think ‘great 48p’ but with bigger outlay brings bigger rewards, so if you are going to start your own portfolio I would recommend a £50 outlay and then you can really start to make some money. As always best of luck if you have a crack at it.
