Celtic came away from Kazakhstan with an all important away goal thanks to Leigh Griffiths late equaliser. In what Brendan Rodgers third competitive game in charge he found his side going behind once again in European action thanks to Yuri Logvinenko’s header after 19 minutes.
FC Astana set out to make life difficult for Celtic and the artificial surface certainly didn’t help the Scottish champions all that much either. The conditions can’t be the only excuse but the partnership between Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele wasn’t a particularly fruitful one.
FC Astana were 12 minutes away from taking a win back to Celtic Park but Griffiths was finally part of proceedings as he struck his effort home from inside the era.
Celtic will go into the 2nd leg as favourites to advance but there have been too many mishaps along the last few years for them to be too complacement and they will still have their work cut out when the two teams meet again.
