Real Football Man All of the Football, All of the time
After a spell at Real Madrid which throughout all it’s teams has lasted 25 years Iker Casillas seems set to end his illustrious time at the Santiago Bernabeu and move to Portuguese side FC Porto. The Spanish International who has won everything in the game that you could possibly win both Domestically and Internationally (bar the Europa League because Real Madrid have never entered it) has decided to move to pastures new and move away from the pressure caldron which is the Bernabeu and settle for the slightly more serene sounds of the Estadio Do Dragao.
But with Casillas departing this means they are going to be looking at getting a replacement in as Keylor Navas hasn’t looked the most dependable man between the sticks when he was called into action last season. The man they have been linked with all Summer is Manchester United’s David De Gea – this is a transfer saga that is set to run and run and Real Madrid always have a habit of getting their man as Manchester United and Tottenham fans are both fully away of (Ronaldo, Modric, Bale signings spring to mind).
So if David De Gea is the heir apparent to Saint Iker at Real Madrid then who fills the void at Old Trafford? I for one really hope it isn’t Hugo Lloris. With Asmir Begovic set to fill the void left by Petr Cech at Chelsea there aren’t too many top quality keepers available on the market which would make the capture of Hugo Lloris an even bigger concern for Manchester United. Although Hugo Lloris has said countless times that he is happy at White Hart Lane there is always that worry that the carrot of Champions League Football is just too much to turn down.
From a Spurs point of view, we’ve really got to stop the talent drain to the big clubs and stop being a selling club to the top tier of teams. I know it’s easier said then done as players quite naturally want to play at the very highest levels but it means that we hinder our own progress and efforts to break the glass ceiling which would enable us to be in the top 4 more often than not. Of course this is all conjecture as if David De Gea doesn’t move to Real Madrid then there is no concern on our part but if the second part of the Goalkeeper transfer domino happens then we better pray that Manchester United opt for Victor Valdes as a suitable replacement and not look to London for their new No.1
