Didier Drogba calls full time on his playing career

Didier Drogba has announced his retirement from Football with immediate effect, the 37 year old who last played for Montreal Impact in the MLS has ended his career but not completely his involvement with Football.

He looks set to move back to Stamford Bridge but this time in a coaching capacity as part of current Caretaker Manager Guus Hiddink’s backroom staff. The Ivory Coast and Chelsea legend will look set to be the key link between Staff and Players as the club look to improve the dressing room atmosphere this season.

Drogba’s illustrious trophy haul included 5 Premier League Titles, 4 F.A. Cup and also a Champions League victory back in 2012. I personally have never forgiven him for that as it was his penalty which secured the trophy and subsequently stopped Tottenham qualifying for the tournament the following season.

What Chelsea would give for a in form Didier Drogba right now, with 11 goals in 11 finals he probably was the definition of a “Big Game Player”. One person who will be probably breathing a sigh of relief right now is ex Arsenal Defender Philippe Senderos. His career was never the same after Didier Drogba ran him absolutely ragged one afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fans will no doubt look forward to his return I guess even if you weren’t a massive fan of Drogba there has to be a grudging respect for a good player whose sheer drive and determination made him a great one.
