Cristiano Ronaldo Surpasses Miroslav Klose

The phenomenon which is Cristiano Ronaldo shows absolutely no sign of slowing down. After a headline grabbing brace in last weekend’s Champions League Final against Juventus he was at it again last night with a brace against Latvia in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

That in itself may not sound all that important but going into the game he was tied with Miroslav Klose as the third highest European international goalscorer on 71 goals but with that brace he has now gone clear third with a tally of 73 goals.

The next person in his sights will be that of Hungarian international Sandor Kocsis who scored just two more with 75 goals to his name. With the Real Madrid star needing just a hat-trick to go second in the all time list that is something that looks more than achievable.

Once Kocsis has been overtaken then there is only one name left on the list to get the better off and that is none other then Ferenc Puskas, Puskas registered 84 goals in 85 appearances between 1945 and 1956 before defecting to the West after a fixture in Bilbao.

That means that Cristiano Ronaldo requires 12 more international goals to become the all time top European international scorer, the fact that the former Manchester United player can probably play to Euro 2024 due to his freakish level of fitness means it is just a case of when and not if this long standing record is toppled.

Here is a list of all his goals for Portugal – Source Wikipedia
