Crawley Town Have Spat The Drummy

Crawley Town are once again without a manager with the news that former Chelsea youth coach Dermot Drummy has parted the club by mutual consent.

In a short statement which was released by the club on Thursday it read the following

“The club would like to thank Dermot and Matt for their hard work in the last 13 months and wish them all the best for their future careers.

No further statement from the club will be made today, but club owner Ziya Eren will be holding a media conference tomorrow”
It will come as no great surprise to Crawley fans and followers of League Two football as the West Sussex outfit have been in a terrible run of form as of the past few months. It’s only the fact that the likes of Leyton Orient, Hartlepool and Newport County have been even more hapless has managed to keep their heads above water.
Drummy leaves the club in 21st and with only one win in their last 10 matches, what is even more significant is the fact that this is not a team in managed decline this is one that has actually had it’s budget increased going into the start of the season.
Previous manager Mark Yates fell foul of the start of the Ziya Eren regime at the end of last season and it seems that the club have now gone backwards under Drummy. Fans are continually staying away from the Checkatrade.com Stadium as Crawley have one of the lowest average attendances in League Two and with the football that has been served up it comes as no surprise.
Crawley finish their season against Mansfield Saturday and many felt that Drummy would have been shown the exit door after the game, so although it comes as no real surprise that he has departed the timing would have raised a few eyebrows. That said they cannot get relegated so it’s all but a dead rubber.
As to who will take over from Drummy and whether they can be the man to match Eren’s lofty ambitions of turning Crawley into a Championship club within 8-10 years remains to be seen, even their short stint in League One seems such a long time ago now.
